Oh I like that! There’s such a lot in this picture. My eyes get taken to the trousered legs top right, and there’s the headless boy trying to rein in the slightly blurred dog – and I think that the two bands of shadow, and the shiney manhole cover in the nearest band, all give the picture something too. Great! FATman

Isn’t it strange how sometimes it’s the shot you least likely expected would amount to anything that actually does? This was most definitely one of them, and now I’m actually quite happy with it, I think it’s got a lot to do with the light. Thank you so very much for the insightful (and enthusiastic) comment, much appreciated.

Yes, the light is good, but I was more taken/intrigued by those cut off people top right. Yes, “strange” photos often turn out unexpectedly well – and its also true that, if I’m taking a series of shots of something, the best shot is very rarely the first – I suppose its to do with getting to know the subject more. I don’t look for pictures too much any more, I just walk/drive around waiting for something to hit me in the eye – and when I find something that really does hit me in the eye, I takes LOTS of shots of it! FATman

Yes, that’s what really caught my eye, that brief moment of the dog running towards something and the little boy hanging on for dear life. I found it such a simple moment, but such a beautiful one. And I almost missed it, which would have saddened me greatly. I totally agree with you, the best way to go about the whole photography thing is to simply wait for that one moment, maybe for something unexpected, or maybe just that something ‘extra’ that comes into your viewfinder.
